Home Is Where The Heart Is

I'm back on the farm after two days in Woolongong (on the south coast of NSW) for a work conference. It is not very often that I get to go to this kind of thing and it was fantastic. So much to learn, and so many ideas bouncing around in my head now.

Better still, I went with 3 other people from work so I got to spend time getting to know them, and now have people to share my ideas with. The next few months will be about developing what I have learnt into something I can use in the classroom and with students who I mentor.

I love teaching (except perhaps the marking), and love it when I find a new idea that really gets me buzzing!

We arrived there on Sunday night, and went to the most amazing Indian restaurant ever - the food was beautiful, and so reasonably priced too. The service and ambience were also lovely! We sat and chatted and got to know each other a little better.

The conference was right opposite the beach - so I snuck out for a quick walk at lunch

After a full day at the conference, I took the opportunity to do a little shopping - not often I get an hour in the shops by myself these days! We had dinner out again, this time at a seafood restaurant. Mmmm soft shelled crab!

Last night, after the conference finished, it was straight in to the car for the three and half hour journey home.

When I finally arrived, I received a rapturous greeting from the kids.

Woolongong was lovely - the weather was (comparatively) warm - I think it got down to 10*c which is still higher that our top temperature here on the farm. The view of the ocean was gorgeous. The chance to eat beautiful food with good company was fabulous, and the chance to learn some new ideas to put into my teaching was brilliant.

Having said that, I missed the kids and Country Boy. It is lovely to go away by myself, and enjoy time with other adults, but it is now nice to be back on the farm with my family - despite the cold weather.

  1. Good to hear about it - I was wondering where you ate the good Indian you mentioned on facebook. The beach looks beautiful.
